PROJECT DETAILS:

Ray Crowe Elementary School is a prototype design developed
by LANCER+BEEBE, LLC that was modified to accommodate a
specific site. The design is based on the award-winning Walnut
Grove Elementary School in the Center Grove Community School
Corporation. Some of the elements that informed design changes
include solar orientation, its location in relation to other schools
on campus, drainage challenges, and the context of exterior
materials. A prototype design for this project enabled the owner
to see and modify the finished product during its design. It also
allowed the design team to create a more clear and concise set
of construction documents. The school features an energy efficient
envelope, solar array, geothermal field, and day-lit interiors that
reduce the carbon footprint of the building and inspire students’
desire to learn more about green strategies. Grades in the school are
clustered into communities around a collaboration space creating
an energetic space for students to learn, explore, and interact.
